Edmonton, AB--- The Edmonton Rush announced today the signing of Captain Canada #94 Ryan Smyth to support the Rush Tribute to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation family night on Friday, April 25th.
Smyth will drop the ceremonial ball for the first face off of the night and will take his place on the Rush bench to start the game.
"I'm excited to join the Rush for their final regular season game Friday night. They've had a great year so far and their jersey in support of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation is something that I really wanted to get behind. As a father of 4, I couldn’t imagine what families go through when one of their own children is admitted. “ states Ryan Smyth
“I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the Rush’s efforts to bring awareness to such a worthwhile foundation that my family and I have supported for years"
With a playoff spot and home-turf advantage throughout the run to the Champion’s Cup locked up long ago, the Edmonton Rush don’t have an overwhelming level of importance placed on the final game of the regular season.
The Rush do want to go into the playoffs on the right note and there is pride on the line, of course, but something more meaningful is now at stake.
The Rush will be playing Friday’s game against the Vancouver Stealth with a special purpose. Specially designed game jerseys have been created to highlight the Rush’s support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, and these jerseys will be auctioned off after the game on Crystal Field Glass Field at Rexall Place. All monies raised will be donated directly to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. Every player in a team sport plans for the crest on the front of his jersey, not the name on the back. But that changes on Friday night.
Each member of the Rush will be wearing a jersey with a specially selected child’s name on the back that has a personal family connection to them personally.
Additionally, the Rush will be selling beach balls for $5 in support of the Beach Room at the Stollery Hospital. One lucky fan who purchases a beach ball will receive an autographed Ryan Smyth Edmonton Rush Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation jersey.
Tickets are available for the final season game, Friday, April 25 vs Vancouver Stealth by calling the Rush office at 780 732-RUSH.
