Rush invade the nest for first game of the NLL season

Nov 30, 2023

Halifax, NS –– Tonight (Dec.1), the Saskatchewan Rush (0-0) and Halifax Thunderbirds (0-0) will go head-to-head at Scotiabank Centre in the National Lacrosse League’s first game of the season.

The Rush are coming off a thrilling back and forth pre-season game with Calgary in front of a sold out Moose Jaw Event Centre. Since Halifax came into the league in 2020, the Rush are 1-1 on the east coast with a 16-15 OT win and a 12-11 OT loss.

Saskatchewan features one of the youngest rosters in the NLL, with 11 new players on the roster compared to last season. Between the pipes, Frank Scigliano is expected to do the heavy lifting this season in his first year in green. For Halifax, Warren Hill has tended the cage for the Thunderbirds, who lost in the first round of playoffs for a second straight season.

On offence, Robert Church returns for Sask after a 51 goal, 53 assist campaign during last season. For the T-Birds, the majority of their offence runs through Randy Staats, Clarke Petterson, Ryan Benesch and Cody Jamieson who all had over 70 points last season.

The Rush come into tonight's contest with a relatively healthy roster. Currently, only Mike Mallory is on the Injured Reserve list.

Faceoff from Halifax, NS is at 6:00 p.m. CST. You can listen to the game live with Cody Janzen on 92.9 The Bull starting with the pregame show at 5:45 p.m. Viewers in Canada will be able to watch the game on TSN 1 and TSN+ with the game being broadcast on ESPN+ in America.
